You're Never Too Young (or Old) to SPAX®

Meet Graham, he's the newest (and one of the youngest) of our SPAX® fans.  At 11 years old we love that his dad is passing down his passion for woodworking...and it looks like the talent runs in the family!

Check out Graham's latest Leopold Bench project, he's even included all the plans and material list for an easy summer DIY family project.

Leopold Bench

Built by Graham

11 Years old

Material List

·         One 2×10 45” cedar, redwood or treated lumber (seat)

·         One 2×8 10’ cedar, redwood or treated lumber (front and rear legs)

·         4½-inch SPAX®  HCR™ washer head lags (or HCR-X™ exterior screws)

·         Construction Adhesive

Tools

·         Speed Square

·         Circular saw

·         Drill or Impact Driver

Steps

1.       Mark one end of the 2×8 at a 22-degree angle with a speed square.  Then cut with a circular saw.  Make a mark 33 inches away and repeat the cut at the same angle.  Cut the remaining front leg and two back legs from the same piece (two 33 inch pieces and two 18 inch pieces.

2.     Fasten the legs together. Stack the seat and backrest as guides and then align the legs against them.  Fasten legs together with Construction Adhesive and  three 2½-inch SPAX® Washer Head HCR lags.

3.      Stand the two ends up and screw the seat in place from the outside  with 4½-inch SPAX Washer Head HCR lags (this will pull the bench together and not leave screw holes in seat for water to collect).

Safety First - Great job on the protective eyewear dude!
     4.       Lay the bench down and attach the backrest with screws 2½-inch SPAX® Washer Head HCR lags.
